Invisible wiper: hydrophobic glass coating
The invisible wiper is the Gtechniq G1 ClearVision hydrophobic coating applied to the glass. Water beads and at speeds above roughly 60 km/h runs off the windscreen without the wipers. In winter frost and ice come off more easily, in summer insects do not bake onto the glass, and at night oncoming headlights scatter less. The glass is polished before application, because G1 bonds only to perfectly clean glass. The manufacturer declares up to 12 months of durability in normal use; in our experience it depends mostly on the state of the wiper blades.

Why G1 needs the glass polished
Glass that looks clean carries a layer of silicones from washer fluids, mineral deposits and micro-scratches from the wipers. No coating bonds durably to such a surface. That is why before applying G1 we polish the glass with cerium oxide, degrease it and only then apply the coating in two layers. It is the difference between an effect for a few weeks and an effect for a whole year.
